University Hospitals in Cleveland became the first U.S. site to install the Siemens Naeotom Alpha.Pro, a dual-source photon-counting CT scanner. The system delivers ultra-high resolution at lower radiation doses, offering advantages in cardiology, pediatrics, pulmonology, and trauma care. Its rapid scan speed of 491 mm/sec and temporal resolution of 66 ms reduce the need for sedation and lengthy breath-holds, making it especially valuable for children and critically ill patients.
Siemens describes the Alpha.Pro as an “accessible” entry into photon-counting CT, complementing its more advanced Alpha.Peak model. By introducing this system in a major academic medical center, Siemens is signaling its commitment to expanding the reach of PCCT technology across a wider spectrum of hospitals, not just elite research sites. This installation marks an important milestone in the growing clinical adoption of photon-counting CT worldwide.
